#43 WW Triple Folio Card by Julie Walker

Hi Everyone, Julie here, this is my card for this week's fold inspiration. I was looking at Youtube for inspiration when I came across an Erin Reed video, there were actually five card styles on the video, all very nice, but I really liked this one so gave it a try and hope you will too. You will need a Base card measuring 11.5 inches by 5.5 inches. [29.5cm by 14cm] A separate piece of base card measuring 4.25 inches by 2.75 inches. [11cm by 7cm]
Method

Score the long piece of card at .25 inches, 3.75 inches and 7.25 inches. [.5cm, 9.5cm and 18.5cm]. Place the card so the .25 inch fold is at the bottom and mark a line 5/8th of an inch from the top of the card [the left-hand side as you look at the card] to the 7.25-inch line. Cut this section of the card off. Burnish all your folds. Add adhesive to the .25 inch flap, I used red liner tape for ease but I am sure wet glue would work just as well. Add the 4.25 by 2.75 inch piece of card vertically to the flap, securing from the bottom upwards, and snip the little tab left at the top of the flap to neaten your card.
For the mats and layers, I just adjusted the measurements for each section by .25 and .50 inches and I decorated all four sections.

I look forward to seeing your cards. Thank you to Erin Reed for her video and inspiration and happy crafting everyone.

Love Julie

#42 WW Triple Easel Card by Angela Stinchcombe

Triple Easel Card by Angela Stinchcombe

Hello everyone.  This is my first blog post for Creative Minds Kind Hearts and I have a beautiful card design to share with you.

To make the 3 easels you will need the following (all sizes in inches):

Base layer

Easel panel

Matts (x2)

Patterned paper (x2)

Large easel

11x5.5

Score at 2.75 & 5.5

 on the long edge

5.5x5.5

5.25x5.25

5x5

Medium easel

9x4.5

Score at 2.25 & 4.5

on the long edge

4.5x4.5

4.25x4.25

4x4

Small easel

7x3.5

Score at 1.75 & 3.5

on the long edge

3.5x3.5

3.25x3.25

3x3

You will also need a raised ‘stop’ for the small easel plus decorations for each easel layer.

Finished size is 5.5x7.5 so fits a standard 6x8.5 inch envelope.

·      Fold & burnish all folds as mountains.

·      Glue the bottom half of the easel panel to your base layer front section (use wet glue on the folded face only), lining up the front edges carefully

·      Glue each matt, then patterned layer in place (1 matt & patterned piece sits on the easel ‘face’, the other on the base) [

·      Glue the medium easel onto the largest easel centrally so that the front sits 1” forward – easiest done with the easel open.  You may prefer to use red tape here.

·      Glue the small easel 1” forward of the medium easel in the same way

·      Decorate your layers so that it all folds flat for posting (to fold lay the small easel flat, lay the medium easel over the top, then the large over the medium)

The same instructions can be used for circles or hearts but if die-cutting the shapes remember to place the die over the crease for your base layers to leave a hinge, then cover with the easel panel.

For a different look try placing the square easels off to one side so not so regimented, or use mirror card for matts…….

I would love to see your versions of this Triple Easel card so please share your makes on the Creative Minds Kind Hearts Facebook Group.

#41 WW The Triple Fold Card - by Lisa Shaw

Welcome to Creative Minds Kind Hearts’

41st Wednesday Wonder - the Triple Fold Card

By Lisa Shaw

This week sees what is possibly one of the easiest folds you will ever make, yet it is very effective once finished.

I have used an old Craftwork Cards set of papers called Countryside to decorate this card. The template below should enable you to make this card using basic cutting and measuring tools, with possibly a die or two for the embellishment.

You should be able to see here that I decorated the first two sections with the same papers, the third & fourth with another pattern and the last section with a third paper. Remember there is no hard and fast rule for this - you may want to use the same paper on each section, or five different papers - the choice is yours.

For matting and layering, I make my mat 1/4” smaller than the base card and my layer 1/4” smaller than my mat, which gives 1/8” border. This, again, can be changed if you wish to have a wider border.

For the decoration I used some square nesting dies, the smallest being 1 3/8” to the largest at 2 3/8”

To finish the card off, I mat & layered papers on the reverse of the card and used a Woodware sentiment stamp.

I hope that this will give you the inspiration to make a card in this style.

GERALDINE ENTWISTLE Z-FOLD POP UP CARD

HOW TO CREATE A Z -FOLD POP UP CARD

YOU WILL NEED

BASE CARD 8 1/2" BY 5 1/2" SCORE AT 2 1/8" AND 4 1/4" TO CREATE A Z-FOLD CARD

FRONT RECTANGLE PANELS 2 MAT LAYERS   - 5 1/4" X 1 7/8"

FRONT TOPPERS 2 MAT LAYERS - 1 3/4" X 1 3/4"

FRONT TOPPERS 2 WHITE CARD PIECES - 1 5/8" X 1 5/8"

MIDDLE AND BACK 2 MAT LAYERS - 2 3/4" X 2 3/4"

MIDDLE AND BACK 2 WHITE CARD PIECES - 2 3/4"X 2 3/4" (CUT 1 PIECE DIAGONALLY)

CORNER PANELS 2 PATTERN PIECES - 2 " X 2" (CUT DIAGONALLY)

TO MAKE THIS CARD

1   Stick the 2 MAT LAYERS   - 5 1/4"X 1 7/8" onto the first two panels of the z fold card base.

2.  Stick the four co-ordinating triangles ( 2 COMPLIMENTARY PIECES - 2 " X 2" CUT DIAGONALLY) to the corners of the back of the card.  I found that liquid glue makes it easier to align the triangles to the corners.

3.  Stick the square mat (2 3/4" X 2 3/4")  centrally between the four triangles.  If you are stamping onto the white layers - remember they will be diamond-shaped. I used pre-printed images.  Layer the 2 5/8" x 2 5/8" image onto this mat.

4 Take the 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" mat and score diagonally   Then cut away approximately 1" away from the tip of one corner ( as shown in the photo above).

5.  Stick this cropped diamond onto the inside panel of the z fold. Add the image of your choice (on the 2 5/8" triangle)

6.  Stick and layer the two images on the 1 5/8" x 1 5/8" squares onto the 1 3/4" x 1 3/4" mats.  Stick the two diamonds onto the front panel.  Take care where adding glue.  Line the right-hand points up with the inside back panel.

Your card is now complete.  Please give this card a go and share your makes on our Facebook Group page.  I look forward to seeing your makes very soon.

Best wishes and happy crafting

Nellie Melon - Double Reverse Shutter Card

Welcome to this weeks Wednesday Wonder, which is a Double Reverse Shutter card

You will need a 12" x 6" piece of cardstock

Scoring

At 2", 4", 8" and 10" score the full height of the card

At 1", 5", 7" and 11" score to 1 inch down from the top and 1 inch up from the bottom

your score lines should be in these positions

Cutting

Make a straight cut from the black spot to the pink spot in the four places shown in the picture

Folding

The easiest way I found to put in the folds was to start with the scores which run from top to bottom, initially ignoring the the smaller scores which will be folded the wrong way at this stage.  Hopefully your card should look something like the picture below

Now fold in the smaller score lines along the top and bottom, reversing the two on each side which were folded the wrong way on the previous step

The fun part of decorating your card now begins!  On my sample card I have added a belly band to keep it closed but that was more because I used thick cardstock

For an alternative take on the style I also made a card using a piece cut to 10" x 6" but only put the fold and cuts on one side, when folded this will fit in a 6" x 6" envelope

Hope you enjoy trying out this style and be sure to share your cards on the main page

Have fun!

Cathryn Walker - Trifold Tags

As you may know I do love a good tag so today have done a little fold out tag tutorial for you, perfect for gift cards, little notes or an alternative to a card.

My folded tags measure 3"x6" but you can adapt this to make tags as small or large as you like.  I cut a 9 3/8" x 6" sheet of card then scored along the longest edge at 3", 3 2/8", 6 2/8" and 6 3/8".

To cut the tag shape I marked 1/2" in and 1/2" down from each top corner then cut between these to remove the corners.

I then used a chestnut brown ink around the tags front and back to give it a more vintage look.

I then cut patterned paper from my vintage dreams paperpad into 5 tags measuring 2 3/4" x 5 3/4", 3 Small tags measuring 1 1/2" x 2 3/4" and a 1 1/2" x 6" strip of paper.

I used 2 of the large tags to decorate the inside of the folded tag.  For the strip I layed out the small tags against the back of the paper and marked between the tags before gluing along the marked lines and sticking into the middle inside tag to make 3 slots for the little tags.

I attached a ribbon to tie my tag so I glued this into place then secured with double sided tape before decorating the front and back covers with the other large tags.

I also cut out two 2"x 2 3/4" rectangles then cut these diagonally to make little pockets for the inside of my tags.  I attached these by gluing along the horizontal and vertical sides and leaving the diagonal side unglued to create a "pocket" that you can use for little notes or more tags.

Look forward to seeing all your crafty makes 😊

Two tents are better than one

Two tents are better than one!

I love easy designs that still have impact and I turn to this style time and time again. I like how it has plenty of room to write personal message inside.

You will need:

  • card blank 5 ¾ x 5 ¾ (14.5cm) or cut one from A4 card (bought as card blank)

  •  card blank 4 x 4 or cut one to 4 ¼ x 4 ¼ from card (see notes below) (10cm or 10.5cm)

  •  topper at least 4” square or diameter (10cm)
  •  scraps of design paper and contrasting paper to mat

This design works well for circular or square toppers but start with the one you want you use. Today I have a square topper cut from 12 x 12 sheet of Sandy paws papers designed by Helz Cuppelditch for Craft Consortium. This will fit exactly onto a premade 4” card blank or I could trim it and mat with the same contrasting paper onto a 4 ¼ “, which I decided to do.

To cut aperture:

If you have a square die 3 3/8 or 8.5cm cut this centrally into the card front, or use a scalpel or trimmer leaving a 1 1/8 or 3cm frame outside. Tip- this is exactly the width of my metal ruler.

Cut strips of contrasting paper for mat layer 1” wide or 2.5 cm. I like a pinwheel effect similar to patchwork and cut them 4 1/2“ long (approx. 11.2 cm).

Check each side to ensure they fit and trim if necessary, before adhering, especially if you have die-cut the aperture.

Mat (and layer) the topper onto smaller card base ensuring it is tent fold. Place this centrally inside main card, lifting and checking all correct before adding glue. I use Collall wet glue here and don’t press down, lifting outer card to check it is straight from inside too. If desired, you can add stamps to inside of card too.

Voilà!

Happy Crafting!

Lesley
