GAIL MANDS - STAR BOOK CARD
CRAFT SUPPLIES
3 nesting rectangles (I used Spellbinders Nestabilities scalloped)
A4 card – 3 sheets of one colour and 1 sheet a contrasting colour
Ribbon – approx. 48cm
Papers to decorate
High tack tape (red) or strong glue
HOW TO MAKE:
- Cut 6 rectangles of each size – 6 large and 6 small in the same colour and 6 in a contrasting colour. I used scalloped rectangles but straight edged ones will do too or cut your own. Mine were approx. 8 x 16cm, 6 3\4 x 13 1\2cm, 5 1\2 x 11cm
- Score and fold each rectangle in half making sure it meets evenly
- Decorate the smallest rectangles first by matting and layering your papers and/or toppers. I’ve cut 4 1\2cm squares from different papers and cut out mini toppers for each page. This works really well with photos for a gift but don’t add bulky embellishments as your book won’t close properly
- To stick together put red tape down the 2 short edges of the smallest and middle sized rectangles. Line up the medium rectangle with the edge of the large rectangle and stick down one side then add the small rectangle to the middle of the one you’ve just stuck down. Then remove the red tape on the other side of the small rectangle and ‘close’ the medium rectangle. Repeat with the medium rectangle, closing the large rectangle onto it. Repeat with the other 5 pages
- Now take each folded page and tape 4 sides of one half and stick them together, making sure they line up evenly to form your ‘book’. When opened out it should begin to look like a star
- Take your length of ribbon and stick it to the centre of the front and back page to enable your book to be tied closed. Don’t stick the ribbon to the spine as you want it to be able to move freely when you open it
- Cover the front and back page to hide your ribbon – I used 7x7cm squares and added a sentiment to the front page.
- You can tie the book closed then open it out and tie it at the top in a star shape – you can even hang it up if you use long enough ribbon
